APL Competition Rules

  1. Game Rules: WFDF rules are in effect, with specific modifications as noted below. For Division 1, all players must have the standard accreditation and two players must have the advanced accreditation. For Division 2 and 3, all players must have the standard WFDF accreditation.
  2. Game Length. Time limit: 70 minutes. Point limit: games are to 15; mirrored half at 8 of 2 minutes duration. Timeouts: two per team per game, 2 minutes duration each.
  3. At Time-Cap: in regular pool play there is an immediate stop to the game once the disc is grounded (caught or on ground); do not finish the point as draws are allowed. In finals/knockout phase, only continue playing if score is currently tied.
  4. Gender Split: A maximum of 4 players of either gender are allowed on the field at any one time. At the start of the game, after the first disc flip, an additional disc flip happens with the winner selecting the personnel ratio (4 male-matching player or 4 female-matching players) for the first point. For the second and third points the ratio must be the reverse of the first point. For the fourth and fifth points the ratio must be the same as the first point. This pattern of alternating the ratio every two points repeats until the end of the game (half time has no impact on the pattern).

    For Division 1 only: If the personnel ratio for a point has four (4) female players, a female player must undertake the pull at the start of that point. if the personnel ratio for a point has four (4) male players, a male player must undertake the pull at the start of that point.
  5. Abandoned Games: if a game is abandoned before the end of time due to injury, lightning, or any other reason, the following scores will apply: if half has been reached, the score at the time play was abandoned; if neither team has reached half; a draw of 9-9. (This is based on previous league average scores.)
  6. Forfeits: if a team forfeits for any reason, the point score will be 0-10 to forfeiting team. If a team cannot play a particular game and gives 24 hours notice of their forfeit to the opposition and the League Coordinator, they get their average spirit score (rounded up). For all other forfeits, the team gets 0 for spirit.  Note that three or more forfeits for any reason will affect a team’s eligibility for the next season (loss of priority registration).
  7. Minimum Numbers: a minimum of 5 people per team are required on the field to commence the game. If a team cannot field 5 players 5 minutes after the scheduled game start time, the opposition team with a fielded team can force a forfeit.
  8. Report Results: Game scores and spirit scores are to be submitted following each game, along with the number of pick-up players used, by the end of the Wednesday following each Monday game and by the end of Friday following each Wednesday game.
  9. Pick-up Players: all pick-up players (ie any player not on the official team roster) are required to be registered on another team or to register on the team to cover AFDA personal insurance. Pick-up players should moderate their play to the standard of the division in question.
  10. Disputes: Non-compliance with these rules will result in game forfeit, as judged by the League Coordinator (the principles of common sense and Spirit of the Game to prevail). Any ongoing disputes between two teams will result in a forfeit by both teams.
  11. Technical Forfeits: technical forfeits are enforced by the APLC for the week of occurrence and for each subsequent week of non-compliance. These are (a) non-payment of any registered players after the final payment date, (b) teams not paying for as many players as they register with, and (c) non-submission of scores (see 8).
