Volunteers of the Month – January 2019

We’re starting 2019 with a bang! We want to say a huge thank you to both Catherine (Cat) Phillips and Aaron Stewart! You are Ultimate Victoria’s Volunteers of the Month.

Both Cat and Aaron are finalists in the 2018 Victorian Sports Awards for the Victorian Young Volunteer of the Year. We’re wishing them the best of luck at the awards ceremony on the 20th February.

Here are some of the highlights in their nominations:

Cat – “Cat is a founding member of the Australian Ultimate League. The Australian Ultimate League is the first professional gender equitable ultimate disc league in the world … The impact of this league on the broader community is that female athletes feel as valued as male athletes. This sends a strong message of worth to the young female athletes in ultimate.”

Aaron – “In 2011 Ballarat Ultimate could barely field a men’s team. In 2018, after eight years of hard work by Aaron, Ballarat Ultimate fields a mixed, women’s and men’s team. For the first time in the club’s history, the Mixed team qualified for the 2018 Division 1 Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships. … Aaron promotes an ‘everybody is welcome’ culture at Ballarat Ultimate. He encourages all to play, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, cultural background and sporting ability.”

Impressive work from two incredible volunteers in Ultimate. Thank you Aaron and Cat!
