Volunteer of the Month – December 2023
Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month for November, Hannah Phillips.
Hannah was the main driver at Monash Ultimate in securing a grant of over $12,000 to enhance the club and its members ability to support people from diverse backgrounds in ultimate.
The grant program had a number of events and workshops run throughout 2023, which Hannah put in many hours working with presenters to organise and conduct.
Pride Cup was an event celebrating the LGBT+ community at Monash Ultimate Frisbee. An estimated 60 people attended the mini-games in the first hour, and approximately half stayed for the education session run by Proud to Play before the barbeque and showcase game played in solidarity with the queer community at Monash.
COACHING AND MENTORING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The coaching and mentoring development program consisted of three parts: leadership workshops, first aid qualifications (mental and physical first aid), and an AFDA coaching accreditation course.
There were four leadership workshops that club members were able to learn from
- Coaching Diverse Players
- Mental Strength in Sport
- Creating a Safe Space in Sport (thanks to Outside The Locker Room)
- Giving Effective Feedback
Club members were also given the opportunity to gain formalised accreditations in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid and AFDA Development Coaching.
Ultimate Victoria and Monash Ultimate Frisbee would like to acknowledge the support from the Victorian government and the Suburban Rail Loop Community Projects Fund received for this program in 2023.
We would also like to thank Proud2Play and Outside The Locker Room for the valuable insights and lessons from their workshops. Click on the logos below to visit their websites.
And of course thanks to Hannah for taking on such a massive piece of work that will benefit not just the Monash Ultimate club, but our whole community!
