The Ultimate Victoria Appointment Panel and Board are pleased to announce the coaches and managers for the Victorian U22 representative teams, the Blue Devils (Mixed), the Weedy Seadragons (Women), and the Leadbeater Possums (Men) who will lead our Victorian teams at the Australian U22 Ultimate Championships in Canberra Friday November 30 to Sunday December 2.

Weedy Seadragons (Women’s)

Jasper is really excited to build on the dynamics and ethic instilled last year towards elite development in our young athletes.

Following her role as an assistant coach of the team in 2018, Georgia is passionate about building on the successes of last years’ campaign to continue the legacy of the U22 women’s team, inspire confidence within the team and continue strengthening elite female development in Victoria. 

Having been inspired by her coaches in previous campaigns as a player, Simar is looking forward to being involved in this campaign in a coaching role and contributing to the legacy of U22 Women’s team.

Leadbeater Possums (Men’s)

Team Manager: Matt Hill

Possessing a strong passion and connection with the Victorian men’s youth teams, Greta looks forward to contributing her skills and experience to the holistic development of the athletes. Greta wants the players to love the sport and the experience, so much that they wish to give back in the future.

Tom is excited to share his knowledge and experience to a younger generation of up and coming ultimate players to make sure the next generation of ultimate players is better than ever before.

Matt is really excited to be part of the U22 team for the first time and continue the Leadbeaters legacy. Matt has watched a number of these players grow as athletes over the last five years and is excited to watch them play together as a group at this years’ championships.

Blue Devils (Mixed Metro)

Assistant Coaches: Steph Chong and Charlie Medic
Team Manager: Nicholas Ng

Having coached the Blue Devils in 2017 and 2018, Simon is excited to once again work with Victoria’s young athletes to play great ultimate, enjoy themselves and improve on last year’s results.

Steph is looking forward to working with a group of up and coming athletes and to give back to the U22 state program. Steph is also excited to see the growth and development of the team over the course of the campaign.

Charlie is eager to get started with the campaign, beginning with selecting and meeting the team, and is also excited to bring some fresh tactics to mixed ultimate.

New team: Mixed Country

In 2019, Victoria will be sending a second Mixed team to the Australian U22 Ultimate Championships, with campaign designed to better suit players living in regional areas. More information about this team can be found in the Player EOI form below.

Team Manager: Nicholas Ng

Deborah is most looking forward to watching the team come together throughout the campaign and learning from the team as they learn from her. Deborah wants the team to be able to throw themselves into the campaign and love it as much as possible.

Bruce is excited upon the inauguration of the Vic Country Ultimate community and look forward to establishing a dynamic elite culture among the development of young athletes in Victoria’s regional areas.

Ultimate Victoria wishes all our coaches and managers an enjoyable and fulfilling time building their teams in the U22 Victorian Campaign in 2019. Player Expression of Interest

For anyone interested in trying out for the U22 Victorian teams, please complete the below form before the first selection day.

U22 Player Expression of Interest Form

The expression of interest form will be closing at 11.59pm on Thursday 15th August.

Selection Events

Day 1: Saturday 17th August
Day 2: Saturday 18th August
Additional selection events will be held following these dates. The campaign staff will confirm the additional dates by Wednesday August 14th.

Locations for selection events will be confirmed in the coming days and communicated to all EOI respondents.

Selection format at try-outs is going to be player preference model and will feature both split gender and mixed formats, with all teams to be selected at the same time. tryouts will be watched by all coaches, assistant coaches and selectors at once and they pick their teams simultaneously. Where one or more teams have picked the same player, that player’s preference will determine which team they will be selected for. You will be asked to indicate your initial preferences in this form. You do not have to indicate a second or third preference if you do not wish to play for a team other than your first preference. There will be an opportunity to change preferences if you wish between selection events.
