Pride Cup event
Earlier this month UV supported a community-driven Pride Cup event at Albert Park. Over 80 players took part in the event, which included an education session delivered by our Rainbow Alliance partners Proud2Play.
From event organiser Max Halden:
“Thanks so much for everyone who came down and played Pride Cup Vic last weekend! I’m so proud to play a sport that supports me to be myself and provides a safe, supporting and welcoming environment for queer athletes like me. There’s still more work to do but it was great to see more than 80 Ultimate frisbee club leaders and young people come together to celebrate LGBTQIA+ inclusion 🌈
Together, we raised over $2400 for LGBTQIA+ charities Switchboard, Transgender Victoria and Minus18 Foundation!
From Proud2Play CEO Christine Granger:
“I had the pleasure of delivering an education session to club presidents from Ultimate Victoria on the weekend before they headed out to participate in their Pride Cup. It is always a pleasure to keep connected with those in the community and hear first hand what is happening in their space.
I find it fulfilling to hear from folks who are driven to be inclusive, continually educate themselves, and provide honest and challenging questions. It helps to keep me focused on the ‘why’.”
Thank you to all clubs and players for supporting this event!
