2025 Club Tryouts

Over the coming weeks, clubs in Melbourne are conducting open training sessions, and tryout events, for players looking to join competitive teams for the upcoming summer season. Read on to learn more about trying out for a team.

UV presents this as general information. Specific questions about tryout events will need to be directed to the clubs. You will not receive a response from UV.

Club team tryouts are a great way to see how you are progressing with your Ultimate skills, and what requires more work. Going to the tryouts is valuable in itself. You can learn new skills from more experienced players, find out what skills to work on, and possibly play at a national championship!

Club teams usually train twice per week, plus there is expectation of individual training. Teams complete roughly once per month in weekend tournaments from December until April. Some tournaments are in Victoria and some are interstate.

There are two divisions of the Australian Ultimate Championships – Division 1 (AUC1) and Division 2 (AUC2) – both held in April. Teams aiming to attend AUC1 have already held their tryouts and have selected teams, but teams aiming for AUC2 will still be recruiting throughout November and December.

AUC1 and AUC2 are competed in Open and Women’s divisions.

Tryouts resemble a training session, with a mix of skill-focussed drills and game play.

Clubs require you to fill out an expression of interest (EOI) first so they can contact you, and send you some information ready ahead of the tryouts.

Other teams

Other Victorian teams that attend AUC2 and the Victorian Ultimate Championships will open their EOI forms later in the year. Some teams run tryouts, some do not. UV will share EOIs for these teams on our social media channels as teams release them.

Any team can attend the Victorian Ultimate Championships in February. So if you miss out on EOIs or tryouts for clubs, you can still form a team with friends and play at VUC.
