2024 Melbourne Hat and Melbourne Tournament wrap-up

Over 250 players descended on Albert Park last weekend to play in two different events, thanks to our event partners Parks Victoria and Superboost. Read on to see the winners of each event!

MELBOURNE HAT

The 37th running of the legendary Melbourne Hat tournament was played in perfect conditions for ultimate on Saturday December 14th. The Melbourne Hat continues to be one of the most unique sporting events in Melbourne, with ages ranging from 15 to over 50, and players with international experience taking the field with players in their first ever ultimate frisbee tournament.

62 players were divided up at random into four teams who competed in round robin gameplay followed by a finals round.

Over 200 players from clubs around Victoria, took to the field for two days in the 2025 season’s first hit-out.

UV would also like to acknowledge the ongoing generous support for this event from Parks Victoria.

Through the efforts of UV members and staff the impact of this event on the park was kept to a minimum – players either carpooled or used public transport to travel to the event, water soluble line marking materials were used, fields were aligned to make use of natural shade, and water usage was kept to a minimum. Of the 1.1 cubic metres of waste generated across the weekend, 77% (0.7 cubic metres) was recyclable. All waste was taken off-site at the conclusion of the event to a waste transfer station.

The 2025 Melbourne Hat and Melbourne Tournament will take place again at Albert Park across the weekend of December 13th and 14th, 2025.
