2022 Australian Under 22 Ultimate Championships – Team Vic wrap-up
The 2022 Australian Under 22 Ultimate Championships were held from Friday July 8 to Sunday July 10 at Victoria Park in Ballarat.
Congratulations to the Weedy Seadragons – our U22 Women’s team – on becoming national champions!
Six Victorian teams in total attended across the U18 and U22 divisions. Read on to find out how they all performed.
Our U22 Women’s team won the gold medal and were crowned national champions! This is the first time the Weedy Seadragons have won the event, having previously finished as runners-up in 2016 and 2019. A huge congratulations to the whole team!
The Leadbeater Possums were in a super competitive battle all weekend against NSW and ACT, but unfortunately went down in the gold medal match and came home with a silver medal. Congratulations to the team for their efforts.
We were represented twice in the mixed division by the Vic Metro Blue Devils, and the Vic Country/Tasmania Greater Bilbies. Both teams performed admirably, chalking up hard-fought wins throughout the weekend. The Bilbies finished in 5th place overall, and the Blue Devils finished 4th.
The Blue Devils came away with the Spirit Of The Game award, tied with ACT. This is the fourth time in a row that the Blue Devils have won the award.
Our U18 Girls and Boys teams attended this tournament, competing in a three-game series against New South Wales in a “reboot” of this division after a lengthy hiatus. NSW took out all games in both divisions, but we are very hopeful about future years as the U18 division re-grows!
